[AusNOG] DC cooling specs

We dohave a failover unit due to some creative conduits etc.

However the unit was detecting it was too cold in the DC and blowing in warm air. After having the tech's out twice we got it to blow cold air again, and after re-designing the entire floor space I was able to provide better air flow to the servers, however the servers got up to about 28degrees in, 34 degrees out. Lets just say it was very uncomfortable on the floor.

After the tech left the room dropped to about 19 degrees in, 23 degrees out, but I guess I was initially after the sweet spot for the operating temperature without going overboard (is that 19, 20, 22, 24 degrees?)

I also have concerns that having it set to such a low temp over a sustained period could actually be damaging to the unit, however these are not the home style split systems but what you would normally see in a DC (ill get manufacturer on Monday)

Also on a side note, anyone know where you can get floor tiles from for dc floors? It would appear our 'spare tiles' are simply a collection of offcuts, or previously cut up for venting and what I need is full complete tiles.

Is it a faulty sensor? Have you brought in some independent sensors to verify what is going on?

Is the airflow in the unit flowing correctly? No blockages?

I would also make sure you check what temperature those AC units are on. I've seen some installations which don't use commercial units and try to pump consistently below 19 degrees. All I can say is that bad things can happen when the wrong equipment is installed. Make sure you have fail over aircon units installed in case the primary fails. If money etc permits.

Mark Stewart

Hey all,
Weve had some issues with cooling today and had the a/c guys out twice, however now the unit is saying that its too hot, yet the entire area is a nice cool 19 degrees (24 degrees at the exhaust point) I have no idea what they have set the ac unit too however.

So the question is, what is the sweet spot for cooling?
