Haven't had that exact issue, but a technique I've used in the past is
to make a hard link to a file, giving a more suitable name, then delete
the original file. Very important NOT to make a symbolic link, or your
file data will be deleted.
Kinda requires that deletion of the illegal name is possible; you may
have to use a wildcard.
Would need to do this on the command line via ssh access to the NAS. How
are you locating the files?
