[AusNOG] Virtualization Technology

For SDN VMware/HyperV seem to be more standard, OVZ/Xen is more for general
VPS/VM hosting rather than the enterprise networking level (not to say you
can't do a lot with OVZ/Xen/KVM, see AWS/Linode). (Yes AWS use Xen Mark)
(see OnApp for the other big management level player, can use Xen/KVM)

Mainly arguments around support, OVZ/Xen/KVM are open source (basically),
and are also designed more for your standard (even enterprise) VM hosting
rather than anything hardcore networking.

In my experience as well, the support on a driver/compatibility level is
also far more tested and far more stable on VMware/HyperV. But as Mark
says, you pay for that.

I think it comes down to the specific scenario, I don't have hard evidence
to say you should/shouldn't use any of those technologies in general, it
comes down to implementations?

If you are talking about routing though, nothing beats the power of ASIC,
though obviously ClearOS RouterOS and the like all run on all 5
technologies.
