The key thing to remember is that CAT5/5E/6 is as much of a
certification standard than it is a cable type. Distance is not as
important as the final product's electrical characteristics meet the
standard. When getting any block or structured cabling installed it's
important that the contractor provide a report as to the products
suitability and that it be certified to the standard specified for the
project.
For example some times shielded cable is needed if there is a high noise
environment or cross talk with other systems is in play. So the question
is not how long can the cable be. The question to the cabler is will you
be providing me a certified installation and then let him tell you If it
can be installed or if you need fiber/regen
