[AusNOG] So, who is joining iiNet?

Perhaps you would prefer that they hire some intern/flunky/shell-script to auto-reply with a standard form-letter?

At least if you wrangle yourself an in-the-flesh meeting (or, at worst, a phone call) you can be sure that said member/representative has actually received your expression of concern.

It’s all too easy to hit the delete button on an email, it’s at least a little harder to ignore a reasonable concern when it’s raised in person and if necessary argued sensibly.

My local member's lackeys were handing out "email me" flyers last week. I emailed, no response.

So yes, it seems phone calls and/or visits are the effective means of communication. I'll be doing so, and complaining that after asking for emails, he ignored them.

Also calling your local member is always worthwhile. They can also never really resists you asking to make an appointment to come and meet with them to voice your concerns.

It makes sense to me - an online petition, unless sanctioned, run and reviewed by government department(s), could technically be made up of mostly 'fake' votes, with little effort by a single individual.

I'd be interested in seeing just how little effort goes into listening to the voice of the people.

Online petitions are almost always inadmissible in parliament under parliamentary rules. They are binned without being read.
