You are not too far off the mark with this. The minister has somebody vet the letters/emails and you will find his/her assistants assistants assistant will actually write the reply often with the minister unaware they have received the complaint/advice.

Sharpen those pitchforks. I'm sure there with be a burning torch app for your phone (reduces carbon footprint)

Perhaps you would prefer that they hire some intern/flunky/shell-script to auto-reply with a standard form-letter?

At least if you wrangle yourself an in-the-flesh meeting (or, at worst, a phone call) you can be sure that said member/representative has actually received your expression of concern.

It’s all too easy to hit the delete button on an email, it’s at least a little harder to ignore a reasonable concern when it’s raised in person and if necessary argued sensibly.

My local member's lackeys were handing out "email me" flyers last week.  I emailed, no response.

So yes, it seems phone calls and/or visits are the effective means of communication.  I'll be doing so, and complaining that after asking for emails, he ignored them.

It makes sense to me - an online petition, unless sanctioned, run and reviewed by government department(s), could technically be made up of mostly 'fake' votes, with little effort by a single individual.
