[AusNOG] Peering in Melbourne: PIPE vs VIC-IX

Hi all,

We are a small ISP that has recently expanded our network to Melbourne
where we have a couple of transit feeds with different providers.

We're now looking at joining one, or both of the peering exchanges
available: PIPE and VIC-IX (WAIA). PIPE used to be the obvious choice
but lately they seem to have been dwindling in popularity among
industry players. Certainly their participants list remains
considerably higher in number than VIC-IX's, but the loss of Vocus
last year is significant. We mostly serve residential customers, and
Akamai is probably the most significant gain for us - but they are
present on both.

So I'd love to hear opinions from others in the industry, is it worth
going with both, or do you prefer one over the other?

Is there anyone out there that has peering on both exchanges, and is
willing to share details on traffic spread?

Thanks,
Chris
