Also can be an issue with 802.11n with 20Mhz vs 40Mhz channels.
Highly recommend reading: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4199 which outlines the best settings.
Make sure, for instance, that the security is set to WPA2 with AES.
I've had no issues with the iPhone5 and wifi. Works well on 2.4 and 5 ghz with 802.11n.
