How much Japanese content do you reckon is hosted outside of Japan? A quick search suggests that out of asia, only North Korea has a lower score in english skills.

10GPON is a thing now (although I'm sure Tom is aware of this). ITU-G.987 has 10 gigs down, 2.5 up, can run over the same splitters as existing GPON.
