And really, why should they.  The end use is not interested in the  
technology we use to provide them with the services upon which they  
now depend.  Do they know what their IPv4 address is at the moment?   
Would they notice if www.some.domain resolved to a funny Hex thing  
with colons?  Not in the least.  They neither know nor care - nor  
should they.  This is our problem people.  As technologist we (well,  
some of us old timers) thrust IPv4 on the general public.  I'm not  
sure why anyone in our technical domain doesn't accept responsibility  
for ensuring the continuity of service.  Particularly as for most  
involved it's now a commercial enterprise.

May I suggest that everyone gets off their collective bums and enables  
v6 on their routers and starts passing packets over PIPE or some other  
v6 aware fabric.  This problem is not going away and if you rely on  
this "Internet thing" for your livelihood then perhaps it's in your  
best interest to make your routers / servers / services talk v6.
