I have no doubt that some small parts and some specific customers are
a net-loss but given the prices people pay in regional areas for
telephony now and historically and the actual lack of evidence that
non-metro is a bad business to be in, I find it difficult to believe
this meme Telstra have always pushed. If indeed it was such a poor
business then I'd expect they would have itemised it in their annual
accounts, they'd have shown the government to increase USO, that they
may have made some effort to sell the business off. Of course, they
wouldn't do this because this "bad business" has kindly paid for all
the sites and backhaul for NextG ...
