YMMV, but an alternative might simply be a smart enough switch that you
can turn off mac-learning on the vlan(s). Without learning, almost* all
frames will be broadcast out all interfaces, giving you a bi-directional
copy of everything out your "tap output" port by default.
*Although, look out for default L2 protocol participation like STP, VTP
etc too if that matters!
