If you've got kit in Derby, Broome or Fitzroy area be aware widespread
flooding, sporadic power failures, strong winds gusting to 100k/h.
Broome's had 412mm (yes, 412mm) of rain since 9am yesterday, Derby 102mm
and Fitzroy river at Willaire Bridge is near peak. Floodplains are
saturated. Broome is not on cyclone alert because the tropical low
sitting to the East is not a cyclone, but the conditions are cyclonic.
Lots of trees down but no known human casualties.
SES, Police, Shire, Western Power and Water Corp are doing their best.
Widespread flooding. Winds variable 40kts (72k/h) gusting to 55 kts
(99k/h), 500 metres visibility in heavy rain. Embedded thunderstorms,
severe turbulence below 5000 feet. BoM Severe Weather warning active,
recommendation to stay indoors. Great Northern Highway closed to all
traffic. QNH 992 hPA. Airport open, conditions unfavourable, flights
delayed, check with your airline.
