Nick,
Read the link. Smoking is not a basis for discrimination. I've had my
advertisements in the past cleared by both the Anti-Discrimination Board
(of NSW) and the Australian Human Rights Commission.
I will reply only to this post. If you are a smoker, I will not hire you.
End of story. I will also not hire anyone addicted to cocaine, heroin,
crack, and whatever the other cool drugs of the day are.
I find smoking particularly worse than any other addictions (Caffeine, etc)
because it makes people stink and they seem to have absolutely no idea.
Your employees represent your business and I don't want that ever to be
what someone thinks about us.
I remember meeting a sales person from a major vendor (Brocade) 10 years
ago... came in, stunk to hell of cigarettes... I didn't even want to shake
their hand. It took me years before I talked to Brocade again.
Smokers might be upset at this.. but I couldn't care less... You might
think you have rights, but you have no right to subject me to your stink.
Get over it.
PS... Over the years, I've had to have words numerous times with staff
about personal hygine (bo) because they've not realised... very
uncomfortable.
