Yes, I realise email content is not available (without court order), but
assuming the mail was being hosted somewhere that is liable to keep
metadata (and not an internal mail server) then they MIGHT find something
in the subject they are looking for, eg:

To: Concerned_Employee
From: Ruthless_Manager
Subject: Re: concerns about scale calibration


That's a lot of ducks to line up, which is even more reason why these
people probably don't need access to metadata ? What are they hoping to
find ?
