Speaking of Brisbane and subsea cables....
What do people think of the push to get a cable protection zone up on
the Sunshine Coast?
The diversity argument is pretty obvious, but is that enough incentive
for folks like Vocus to want to build a cable system there?
I presume the subsea plant costs would be a little bit cheaper than
Sydney due to reduced distance (by 8-10% to Hawaii, eg). But then
they'd have to backhaul to at least Brisbane to get to data
centres. Contrast that with Mascot where there's a truck-ton of
data-centre infrastructure pretty close to the landing zone.
Some other places around the globe have diverse landing in relatively
out-of-the-way places (Morrow Bay and Hillsboro, anyone?) so maybe the
Sunshine Coast is reasonable?
Mark.
