[AusNOG] VoIP / SIP server for Amazon EC2

It's actually for mucking around with http://sipml5.org/
Which is a HTML 5 Javascript SIP library.
There is a optional proxy server which handles transcoding where needed.

So yes transcoding is on the server, but Asterisk should be using ulaw 
internally for everything (i think).
