Id also assume it would be best in your case Skeeve, as with your email sig’s you can assign it to which ever +alias you are sending out from

So if you were sending out from skeeve+ausnog at eintellegonetworks.com <mailto:skeeve+ausnog at eintellegonetworks.com> you can use your eintellegonetworks signature? And if you were using TheISPGuy, you could use that sig on skeeve+ausnog at theispguy.com <mailto:skeeve+ausnog at theispguy.com> ? :P

I've found it not to be that accurate... whichever way.

Google/Gmail has a feature for mailing list filters, you don’t need to use the + if you don’t want. Basically it sets up a filter for list:”name.of.list” which you can pipe to a folder.

I love this... best feature I discovered of Gmail.

1. Go to Settings and accounts. Add new account "skeeve+ausnog at theispguy.com <mailto:skeeve%2Bausnog at theispguy.com> " (notice the +alias)

Note, you shouldn't need a code/verification if it is identical to your current address with the +alias. You can have a lot of these... I have about 30 for different mailing lists.

The +alias are ignored by Gmail, but awesome for adding filters for email addressed to blah+ausnog - which allows good sorting. You can also receive email without adding the account, but need to add the account to send from. This is useful as you can make it up on the spot for signing up to commercial emails... I like to use the to track who has distributed my email address... so skeeve+woolworths at blah identifies the leak, and is also easy to block in servers and filters.

2. Once added you Go back to Inbox, then back into settings, and you will be able to add a signature for the +alias

3. Make sure under accounts under "When Replying to a message" you choose: Reply from the same address the message was sent to setting so that this is automatic.

4. Unsubscribe from the mailing list and re-subscribe as your +alias or change the email address if Mailman/Listserve softwareallows.

Done.

Done... oh Damnit!

Like many others here on Gmail/Google Apps... it doesn't actually show me my signature before I send it.. So I didn't notice. Then I thought how do I do a different one for a mailing list... and then realised I already do... so fixed :)

I think it's time to re-organise my email... hmmm.

How about it, Skeeve? :-)

Hey,

Let's make it your job... Charge a yearly fee for a premium list :) i.e. an Ausnog Premium 'Member'

That would get rid of a lot of the space wasters...

Good morning and welcome to a new work year. I hope everyone managed some time off over the festive season.

Over the last few months the quality of content on the AusNOG mailing list has dropped appreciably. It appears that some members of our community misunderstand the purpose of the list and are using it in a number of ways that are in breach of the list charter. That cannot continue.

To help clarify the purpose of the list we have updated the list charter. I'd ask that you all read the charter at the link below so that everyone clearly understands the purpose of this list.

        http://www.ausnog.net/mailing_list/charter

In particular, and I'll paraphrase from the charter, this list IS NOT to be used for :

* level 1 vendor specific tech support. If there is a vendor / product specific list or forum please use that.

* name calling and other unprofessional behaviour

With regard to specific threads that occurred over the Christmas break, I'm at a loss. The conduct of some members hit a new low and that sort of behaviour cannot continue. As such some individuals have been warned about their conduct and others are now being moderated. Please be warned now that from here on we will swiftly moderate members that ignore the charter. We will continue to moderate list members until the quality of postings increases to an acceptable level.

In response to being moderated, one list member responded with an email along the lines of "If you people were doing your job ....". Can I just remind everyone that we are a group of individuals who volunteer a few man-weeks per year of work towards running the AusNOG Conference. We also facilitate this mailing list. It is hardly "our job" to force the "professionals" in our industry to act professionally. We'll leave that to each of you.

Thanks for your time and I look forward to your cooperation and assistance in getting this mailing list back on track.

Thanks

David - on behalf of the AusNOG Board
