[AusNOG] Megamon? Was Re: Who are these people nominating for APNIC EC?

I looked at it a year or more ago and now again today.

Back then the demo didn't look or feel very good and it seemed like kind of
waste of time. But you know, local Brisbane company, friends of friends
etc....

So even though I wasn't terribly impressed I asked a few questions and gave
some feedback about needing common north/south interfaces; then left it at
that.

I looked at it again today as my interest was spiked again for a number of
reasons.

The web interface has had a revamp, so it's faster and looks more
attractive now, but I'm still not impressed and after doing some due
diligence on the OVA I can strongly say I neither need or want it on any
network I'm involved in.

Behind the scenes:
 - CentOS 6.6
 - rsyslogd/ntpd/xinetd/net-snmp/etc
 - Apache/FastCGId/mod_php
 - MySQL
 - cacti/spine
 - smokeping
 - bearerbox/kannel WAP/SMS gateway
 - A slew of php and javascript from open source projects implementing with
webUI, including some commercial stuff like ionCube to obfusticate a lot of
the php code

No obvious attempt to harden anything to a basic level. Closer to the
opposite.

Selinux disabled.

No iptables firewalling.

Silly things instantly accessible, and poor passwords in use for default
mysql accounts etc.

That all said, look under the hood of most Cisco virtual appliances
(ACS/WCS/ISE etc), and even in their ASA appliances; you'll find a system
that's not really all that dissimilar to the above. Quite often it's CentOS
4, maybe 5 if you're lucky ;-)
