We have seen the "We'll do it our way, your loss if you don't follow"
movie before, remember pre-standard POE? 

I wouldn't bet the farm on anything pre-standard at the physical access
layer. By the time the dust settles on this, the gear will likely be due for
another refresh cycle anyway.
