Optus XYZed and Ewan products are being overhauled currently which will compete directly with AAPT type services and price points…

Can’t say much because we are under NDA with Optus Wholesale as new aggregator but watch this space for new wholesale products which are coming to market soon!

Optus are fantastic to deal with, you just need volume which is fair enough!!

Hi Barry,

Yes, it is sad that Optus choose to do this... early on they were a leader in Wholesale with XYZed, but they've not innovated or done anything interesting in the space for a long time (wholesale 3G being the best thing) and yes, the bar for spend they set is high, which has limited a lot of smaller players selling their products directly.

This has its positives and negatives for them, but mostly negative for the market. The big negative is that they aren't really all that relevant into todays wholesale market, which you can expect from a carrier with a mostly retail focus - although they suck at the SME space for broadband solutions.

At any time Optus could make themselves more relevant in the market, but I don't think they are very motivated to do much about it... no idea why.

It seems many people can provide transit to Optus but to buy off Optus direct you have to have a very large spend.
I have a circuit going live to AAPT in the next month so that will give me a closer AS path to Optus, however was hoping for a more direct link to their AS.
The problem is Optus sometimes prefer us via the US as we peer / buy transit direct in the USA and at current it can be the same AS hop length so we get additional latency.
Hopefully with the AAPT Domestic this will solve things, currently we use Global-Gateway (Telecom NZ), Telstra Global & Vocus to get to AU; so AAPT should be the more direct path.

Talk to Tim Jones at iSeek.  They are on Megaport and are a big Optus house for their transit.  They will likely deliver you Optus transit over Megaport.
