[AusNOG] Dark Fibre going Error Disable

Hi Mate,

Ok so the link was flapping and the Cisco disabled it for this reason.

You can actually tell the Cisco in a link flap situation to attempt to remove the error disable after a certain period of time or tell it not to disable the port at all if it's flapping.

I can send the commands off-list if required but it looks like you may need to look a little deeper to see if there is an issue with an Optic or if there was someone working on a patch panel, splicing point somewhere that caused the dark to flap.

Kindest Regards,

Seems to be nothing else on either side... which is why I am asking... very odd for Dark Fibre.

Skeeve,

There could be a handful of reasons for this such as link flapping, broadcast storm if storm control is enabled on the Cisco end etc.

This is also sent to SYSLOG or shown in the local log if the buffer hasn't filled up as yet.

Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone might know what some triggers would be to cause a dark fibre link to go into Error-Disable.

It was easy to shut; no shut to bring it back online, but it was disturbing nonetheless.

One end is Cisco and the other Juniper using ER optics - not sure if that makes a difference or not.
