Hi Alex,

I think they are literally talking about the last kilometer
here, so speeds will be a lot better. Having fibre layed
to each street node, then copper to each house I can see
impressive speeds with this technology.

It's not fibre to the home, and personally most people in
the street dont really care as many of them are happy
with wireless.. This would suit certain areas, other areas,
not so but its a usable future technology and its good
to see companies pushing the tech and still researching.

Remember the end user's are in the real world, we tend
to think about what we want/would like at home, we
are not your normal end users, and this list isnt for end
users. Sometimes we need to remind ourselves of
were we 'should' be looking at the problem from.

I get 21mbps at home, great speeds to the local exchange
3 blocks away, great speeds to my provider, my problem is
from the provider onwards. Thats not going to change with
fibre for many people.

I would rather the Government stepped away, let the
industry roll fibre, or whatever out as needed. There
is no need for an NBN company, there is need for
Telstra wholesale to be split off, then let the providers
sort out the rest with reference to economics, hardware
and need.

Cheers
