Can you provide some evidence of this future FTTN 'standard shitty average of around 7mbps'?
The following presentation shows that a lot of people are already getting close to or more than 7Mbps from ADSL1/2/2+. VDSL2/2+ should easily provide greater than that on shorter FTTN lead-ins.

The ALU announcement is quite significant in the context of using Fibre to the Distribution Point (FTTdp) instead of FTTN:
