[AusNOG] Rack Studs - AWESOME

I have a feeling you might have the same issue we did.  I have since
tried ours in a couple of other racks with variable results, albeit
mostly tending toward the 'very easy' end of the scale.

Any word on what sort of rack you're using?

My RackStud sample packs arrived.

Just had a go at installing them in a few of our racks. Damn they are
tight.

Took a lot of effort to get them installed and removing them required
tools...almost as difficult as installing cage nuts.

could just be the racks/frames we're using.

colleague at the end of last year but he didn't understand what they
were at the time so didn't give them much thought.  I showed him the
website this morning and he remembered he had some.

A small word of warning on RackStuds is that they don't fit our Hallam
Channel Rack (http://www.thehallamgroup.com/item/channel-racks).  I
thought we were going mad for a while, but on closer inspection because
the vertical rails that the holes are punched into is actually the
structure of the rack it appears they use a slightly thicker rail, and
as a result the RackStud can't get all the way through the hole which
prevents it from pivoting to allow the other side to clip in.  Looking
at the website it appears RackStuds can accommodate a rail thickness up
to 2.2mm.  The Hallam site doesn't say what theirs is, but hopefully
this warning might save a sad nogger or two in a couple of weeks if they
haven't checked if their rails are compatible.

With that said, we tried it on one of our conventional Hallam racks and
it practically fell into the hole.  Not bad at all.

Nexus 7ks don't fit in our 1050mm racks unless the front and rear rack
doors are removed!

5k's aren't much better either...

True. How big was it? If it is so big that it needs special rack mount
kit then I think a chassis failure requiring replacement will cause a
too large a MTTR and require too many people.
