[AusNOG] Telstra Outage ETR: Broome/Derby/Kunnunurra, WA?

Thank you to those who replied, both on and off list, and thank you to those who fixed the problem.

It would be nice if Telstra could include even a little bit more information in the outage message, you know, something which mentions what's actually wrong instead of the generic outage message which they had available.

I realise some things may be commercial-in-confidence but if the problem is from a fibre cut near Karratha, as was the case in this instance, would it hurt to say "Fibre cut near Karratha" in the outage info?

Cheers
Kai

Is interesting. We have a service into Kununurra that went down
yesterday afternoon at a similar time to the westnet outage fault
start time. A fault was logged to Telstra on it this morning (after
waiting for site to confirm power, reboot router, etc) and the info
that came back was that a faulty cable pair was found between exchange
and site and a tech would be sent to look into it. This update was
after midday.

The service came back up an hour or so ago, which seems too quick for
a tech to have gone out and fixed a faulty copper pair. If there was a
fibre break into the area then I think it's much more likely that is
the reason why our service went down (and restored again recently).

Telstra outages give this one that took down phones & ISDN in
Kununurra:

The restoration time on that outage coincides to about 2 minutes of
when out data service came back up, although the outage starting time
is different (maybe ISDN managed to kick along for a few more hours
before dying).

I'm only writing this to highlight what would appear to be a disparity
of information being provided on the true cause of the outage.

regards,
Tony.

 Kai,
We saw an outage of 33 minutes in our Telstra provided WAN circuit at
Broome, dial up solutions also failed to establish connectivity.
We were told "A fibre has failed and is being replaced".
I hope this is of some help.
Best regardsKarl W
