Tolerating it is a better term than liking it. That could mean it is always close to the threshold, and in my view it is.
It's all a question of time and value. If the time spent participating doesn't return enough value, then it is wasted time, and time that could be spent on other things.
If some people want to degrade the value of the list by continuing with off-topic posts to it, other people will find somewhere else to spend their time where they get a better return.
