I think that is a reasonable point.

Some of the recent questions on the list have been ones that could have probably easily been answered by RTFM'ing, looking up RFCs or consulting more product specific forums.

The thing to remember about questions is that the further away from the authoritative answer source you are the more the likelihood of a incorrect answer goes up, in part because there are less likely answer sources (e.g., people).

This not being a Vyos Vyatta support forum, so the likelihood of an incorrect answer on Vyatta goes up because there is less Vyatta expertise and experience here.

Books are usually going to be more accurate that discussion forums, because they should have been researched and reviewed, and RFCs are going to be more accurate than books because they're the authoritative specifications for protocol operation. So, for example, the best answer to how multicast querier priorities works is going to be in the multicast RFCs. If you don't find the RFC clear, a book might better explain it. If a book doesn't, then find the relevant IETF Working Group and ask for clarification there - the answer should be good, or, alternatively, people will realise it is unclear and it may be better clarified in a later version of the RFC.
