[AusNOG] Brisbane Telstra DNS issues

Negative from here to 8.8.8.8 or anything,

No DNS Queries are being allowed through to external nameservers, confirmed against 8.8.8.8 as well.

Perhaps they are not only blocking UDP, but someone's been running around rebooting their DNS Architecture while they hunt for an issue in the wrong spot?

Hint for Telstra Team.: Someone's blocked UDP port 53 on customer connections, somewhere. (That's up to you to find). If you can find that and unblock that, or remove that broken PRISM security appliance that the government is installing for you as we speak (Ok, joking about the PRISM part), then it might work.

I recommend trying googles public DNS servers, 8.8.8.8 is an easy one to remember :)

IP connectivity is fine.

Probably better than normal. Getting rid of DNS kind of gets rid of congestion one would imagine.

Try doing an NSLOOKUP and using a remote server and see if you can confirm UDP is being blocked?

Confirmed we are seeing this too.

Getting SERVFAIL to the Telstra DNS servers from external queries and Telstra customer connections.

IP Connectivity seems ok.

Hi is anyone else experiencing Telstra DNS issues in Brisbane?

It appears as though someone at Telstra has blocked all UDP-Port53 requests from any Telstra connection in Brisbane.

Not only can't I resolve using Telstra's Brisbane DNS, I can't resolve any other nameservers when using a Telstra ADSL Connection here in Sunny Brisvegas.

This issue appears to be Widespread.

If someone from Telstra is Lurking, please unblock UDP port 53 as it's kind of essential for Internets to work.
