I don't really see it being a big problem.
If you want a single channel use RSP equipment for cheaps.
If you are going multiple then you can either use NBNco's current box
and supply your own multiple routers both of which would be at your expense.
Or get a router that's smart enough to handle multiple services.
I do hear where you are coming from with lock in, but that problem
should be solvable with software, IE something akin to rapid churn, at
time X RSP-1 is cut off and RSP-2 is turned on for your service.
RSP-2 will then call you (or not) to walk you through the setup.
