[AusNOG] Comments about Amcom?

Hi Skeeve,

Amcom have been great to us in SA. They're more cost efficient than some but much more expensive than others. I know that's a fairly general feeling, but after midnight I'm feeling slightly braindead!

Sometimes the times to respond and rectify items are slower than would be considered the norm in our industry, but it appears in Australia the larger the organisation the slower it moves.

Amcom is almost exclusively Perth based. They have a little bit of gear in SA and some POP's in Syd and Melb, but that's about it. When it comes to fiber in the ground in the Perth metro area the only 2 choices you have are Telstra and Amcom.

As far as quality of service goes I can only compare them to what I know which is Telstra, don't have any personal experience with east coast fiber providers. On that front they are our preferred supplier over telstra. Their prices are good(compared to telstra), their support is good and far more responsive and less hoops to jump through if you want a change to your service. Reliability is basically on par with Telstra's IPWAN, no more than one "incident" a year or so which is normally resolved within 30 minutes. Dealing with them is a far more personal experience than you get with telstra, but that may just be a side effect of their smaller size than telstra since they only really serve the Perth metro area and not the whole country.

Hey all,

A customer has asked me about Amcom... primarily in the context of managed WAN's and them as an option.

I've never dealt with them, so I thought I would ask the community which knows all about this space.

They seem to focus of the West cost.. and most of their customer testimonials are also west coast.

Just wondering if anyone has anything positive, negative, experiences they can share with me off-line

Thanks all.
