If it is Telstra-Akamai related, there was a similar fault two weeks ago immediately following the Queensland floods.  A workaround at that time was to bypass the Telstra DNS servers and go to 8.8.8.8.  See http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=2048537&p=2 for more details on that occasion.

Meanwhile, Telstra 24x7 have posted this to their Facebook channel just prior to 9:30am:
