[AusNOG] Vocus vs. Pipe - Was: Vocus peering traffic missingfrom PIPE-IX?

With transit prices dropping all the time. Im not sure how long the
Sydney IX's can hold on. I don't believe they are two financially
competitive right now. Im sure im not allowed to publicly say how much
we pay for the pipe IX but needles to say it's only a small amount per
meg cheaper then what we pay for transit from others and traffic seems
to be falling on our pipe peer. So lets just say the target is a moving
one at the moment. Now if Telstra/Optus were to join an IX that would be
a different story but we all know that's not going to happen.
It would be nice if an IX was available without to many ongoing costs
(it's a layer 2 switch port after all) however with interconnect
pricing (global switch meet me etc) all this adds up.
There seems to be more value in pooling smaller ISP's together to go to
transit providers as a group. We have had some success negotiating some
better prices in that situation.
As to the fight between PIPE/VOCUS It sounds like interesting gossip The
business man in me says this is their business but the bitch in me
wants the dirt. Now if you will excuse me thesuperficial.com awaits
Matt.
