I'm not sure I see it that way.
I see it as a case of a bunch of people seeing something that they can
do to keep the lights on when the damage has exceeded what the
facility was designed to tolerate.
Rather than sitting back and going "oh well, this is beyond what we
catered for, so we'll just let it run down", they did something. Good
on 'em I say - if they can see a crazy option, and carry it out
successfully then I think that rocks :)
