[AusNOG] Issue getting routes from Telstra to 49.156.16.0/22

Hi Sheng,

I'd start by trying to advertise more specific prefixes. I see below that Dodo was adverting /24's. If Telstra allows /25 routes to be advertised you'll trump any AS_Path selections pointing to Dodo.

Path/option B, stop advertising the route to Telstra and let one of your other carriers advertise it to them.

Would love to hear what Telstra come back with.

Thanks,

Wade

Yes I fully agree.

I should be able to escalate this complaint to Dodo or the respective parties at Telstra but I expect it to fall on Deaf ears.

Any idea what the path of action to take in this situation is?

remember though, this is as much Telstra's fault as it is Dodo's - as they're not filtering their customers properly.

Telstra really needs to address this properly.

Hi Everyone,

This issue has now been resolved. Thanks to all the help everyone has sent through.

A summary of the issue is that Dodo advertised our /22 subnet that caused a routing loop. All traffic leaving Telstra was being sent to Dodo and then back to Telstra in a loop.

I managed to contact the Telstra and Dodo NOCs and 1h 45 minutes after the change was made the issue was rectified.

What avenues can we pursue to ensure this doesn't happen again? I know there isn't much but I would like to know what the complaint procedures are for this?

Thanks Tom,

We are on the phone with Telstra and Dodo now. Finally found an engineering contact to look at it, but still trying to resolve.

Hi Everyone,

We were notified recently that no customers on Telstra could see our 49.156.16.0/22<http://49.156.16.0/22> subnet as it appears to be stuck in a routing loop within the Telstra network, looping to Dodo and back.

Does anyone have a contact at Telstra or is anyone from Telstra on list who could investigate this issue for us?

Cheers,
