[AusNOG] Vocus Harbour Crossing

To the data centre propeller heads this may seem like a hugh feat. There was probably a sound and justifiable reason for spending under $1M to gain 400 metres on someone else but from the perspective of the average network dude that read the Slashdot article, I'm thinking it's going to get the absolute piss pulled out of it.

I probably won't be getting a job with a service provider anythine soon ;-)

Apparently Vocus has been slashdotted:

I do wonder, let’s see which of the major print/radio/television/online media pick up on this – and whether they accurately report the impact

Yes it is VERY cool, yes it is extremely relevant to discussions on direct low latency for high speed capacity - but as we saw with IPv6 Day the relevance and impact the efforts we all go to often don’t get the attention in the wider community it deserves

Of course I put itNews as an obvious exception on reporting accuracy on this one ;)

But to back up everyone else’s comments, congrats to the Vocus team!

Yup.

Kudos to Vocus for laying cable.

Latency, blah, blah, blah. More importantly it brings bragging rights and a serious 10 in the cool factor in my books :)
