Was reading over this article today and did notice the comments about battery backups.

I have to be honest and have not been following in great detail what is happening with battery backups but that said I am wondering if they have taken into account the product life cycle when you introduce UPS.
I did find this which did not really indicate who will be responsible for the UPS? Does this mean Users or ISP?
5.8 Battery Backup
In order to comply with the Government's objectives, NBN Co will provide a Battery Backup solution so as to temporarily power Network Termination Units (NTUs) installed at the Fibre End-User's premise in the event of a mains power failure.
Standard NTU installation will include installation of a Battery Backup Unit together with the initial battery. Going forward, battery replacement, charging, and maintenance will not be NBN Co's responsibility. Any battery-related alarms will be passed to the RSPs for appropriate action.; http://www.nbnco.com.au/assets/documents/nbn-co-3-year-gbe-corporate-plan-final-17-dec-10.pdf
I know this is a small thing in the grand scheme of things but will be interesting in 2 to 5 years times when all of these UPS are not maintained.
