That's a simplistic and incorrect assessment Dale. Ausnog is about network operators being able to discuss network operating issues together. The conference is about doing these things in person (personal networking) and also meeting people socially and enjoying each other's company.

As you apparently appear unaware but many, many people actually travel to Sydney for the Ausnog conference. I was simply putting forward an alternative for the groups consideration *and* if people were so interested threw out the teaser of some social interaction on a spare day at the end. For your information NANOG, NZNOG and others (think APNIC etc.) rotate their annual conferences and there has been a discussion both on-list and off-list about whether the location should simply remain in Sydney or rotate as other major *NOG events do.

I agree that my suggestion would be difficult both from an organisation committee perspective and from a user perspective. I completely understand this it may just be too difficult. But I'm prepared to ask the question and contribute resources from my side and others to see if we can make the delta between the Sydney and Rockhampton something that is manageable and acceptable to others.

Last time I checked, AUSNOG was run by a bunch of people who have a heart, a conscious and live outside the world of IRC. I fear I may not be able to say the same about a number of people who subscribe to this list though. Ausnog, IMHO opinion is a COMMUNITY of network operators who get on this list and meet at a conference to share knowledge, experiences and help where necessary. I'm not saying anything different to that, just suggesting the AUSNOG community consider some inconvenience and support another community through its event being held somewhere else.

Cheers
