IANAL but I know that there has been a precedent with relation to Facebook being used as a medium for defamation set in South Australia back in 2009

Also, fwiw, if you want to see everything your Facebook profile has ever had on it, go to Account Settings and "download your information"
A zip file of goodness comes your way!

Subject: [AusNOG] [OT] - Validity of facebook in a court scenario

Hi all i was wondering if anyone has any professional or individual dealings with facebook being used as evidence in a court setting? Is it permitted?

On one hand we have information coming off the 'net that is static and can be easily printed into hard matter.
However on the other hand you could just as easily copy/paste it to word and modify to suit, not to mention the debug tools in IE9 (press F12 and you can edit a page live!)

I have seen in the past it be allowed but i am wondering to what degree it is acknowledged as a source of information.
