The RB411U has a USB port for a 3G card, as well as a serial port. It'll act as a VPN server too, so you can get it to generate a tunnel over 3G using GRE, then dynamically route the attached OOBM network over OSPF :)

All for like $300...

Google for Mikrotik routers, they are the swiss army knives of OOB and gadgetary-routing. Serial, Ethernet, Wireless, Mobile + USB Mobile sims to VPN dial-home, very handy for OOB, even in metro.

I haven't used the VPN + GSM Dongle + Serial combo however there should be a few on the list who could shed more light on to specific hardware versions?

Software for these little puppies is sensational, too.

I always keep a spare pair wherever I travel for just-in-case OOBs.

Is anyone aware of a 3G modem that can be used for dial-in access, e.g. to connect you to a serial port on a console server? Ideally Telstra would be the carrier as the locations are very remote.

I have a situation where the most economical way to have OoB access to a site is only going to be via mobile, but IIRC Telstra are not doing GSM any more? Or am I wrong?

And this would also require CSD right, do any 3G operators even do CSD on 3G?

Ive been looking at http://www.mobiledata.com.au/Siemens-TC65.asp but it doesnt mention 3G, only GSM.
