The methods don't matter to them - that's not their problem.

What they want is to be constantly collecting evidence against you,
because they assume that eventually you'll commit a crime. I don't and
will not accept being an assumed criminal.

When the IESG considered whether adding LI into Internet standards was
appropriate, Jeff Schiller, IESG member and MIT network manager said
the following (http://www.wired.com/politics/law/news/1999/10/31895)

"We should not be building surveillance technology into standards. Law
enforcement was not supposed to be easy. Where it is easy, it's called
a police state," Schiller said on Tuesday.

Think about the last two sentences.
