Gigabit Switches with 10GbE Uplinks

- HP ProCurve 2910AL - 24 port 1GbE switch with 2 module slots - about $3k. 10GbE 2 Port SFP+ Module approx $2k

o So switch + 4 * 10GbE is 7k

o We've deployed 50 or so of these things... NICE switch, simple and doesn't break for the most part

- Cisco 3560X-24T-S - 24 port 1GbE switch with 1 module slot - about $3.5-4k. 10GbE network Module approx $2.5k

o We all love and know these

- Juniper EX3200 - 24 port 1GbE with 1 module slot. About $3.5k. 10GbE network module approx $2k

o We love these switches

o EX4200 is the same with stacking. Think ex3200 = 3560, ex4200 = 3750

- SMC Tigerswitch - 8 XPF ports... crap.. AUD$14k - don't buy here, buy from US (if you must) for about AUD$5-6k

- Plus many other switches that have 10GbE modules - Cisco, HP, Juniper and others - mostly chassis based switches.

All around the same price for enterprise 10GbE goodness. SFP+ will vary. We don't touch anything other than SFP+ as they seem to be less popular, less available options.

Switches with 10GBaseT - no need for SFP+/XFP/etc... can do 10GbE over Cat6 and Cat5E (short distance i.e. top of rack)

- Arista 7120T-4S. AU$18-20k ($30k for 40port version). We had one of the 40 port babies in the office for a bit for labbing. Oh my. 10GBaseT is wow and much better than SFP+ (except distance) from a cost perspective. Terabit throughput and Billions of PPS. Arista also have a VSwitch (for VMware) called vEOS - which is free. If anyone is interested in more information feel free to ask. FYI - Arista is 'kind of' the bastard love child of Cisco and Sun.

- Juniper EX4500-40F. Just announced - about $30k - only 40 port version. Awesome Junos

- Extreme Summit X650. No idea on pricing.

- Cisco 10GBaseT line card for 4900M. Pricing not on distie's websites in Australia that I can find.

All pricing is approximate and mostly in ex-GST.
