Exactly my thoughts. The filter addresses none of, what I would consider, the very pinnacle of issues.

As we all know, pedo's don't just view content, they actively stalk children using conventional and known methods (Myspace, Facebook, MSN, ect).

What does the filter do to address this? Nothing.

It appeases a particular lobbying group who do not represent the general views of the Australian population. These people want to stifle political debate about issues which concern them. This stifling of political debate and inconvenient information will increase, not decrease, in the same way as oppositions ALWAYS promise transparency in government and NEVER deliver when they're next in power.

Just wait for the next time this is about Australia instead of Thailand: http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20100615/tc_afp/thailandroyalinternet or http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/breaking-news/facebook-slams-pakistan-ban-over-prophet-mohammed-contest-page/story-e6frf7jx-1225869199058

Remember it'll be about "national security" etc, that's if you get told. Guarantee the legislation will have the ability for a minister somewhere to slip a website into the filter list for "national security" reasons without having to tell. Slipperly slope meet the lobbying grease that lubes you. Once these lobbying groups have their hand in the puppets their influence will remain strong. Don't believe any political party is immune to this. They all make compromises to get into power.
