And what is your official definition of the length of time it'll take you to start referring to the "new" infrastructure as "old" infrastructure ? All networks become "old" at some stage and the owners will try to maximise the return on their investment. Sure, there's room for generational change as technology dictates, but ignoring existing infrastructure standards (be they copper of existing fibre) wouldn't be helpful for anyone in the long run.
