[AusNOG] Kohler: Solution to the NBN article

Ahh, but what if a completely new network is constructed, which
essentially negates the mandatory need for the "old one", and then
everyone starts moving to it (because it's bigger, better, faster and
works in more places LOL).

Seems a huge waste of $$ invested on the "old one" which will (already)
start falling over and now revenue to fix it will be dimished through
customers moving to the "new network".

So, if Telstra is separated, what happens to the old network and how are
they going raise the revenue to fix / upgrade / enhance it.

Seems to me (maybe I am missing the point) that a separation for Telstra
would result in infrastructure (and subsequently service levels)
declining rapidly when critical mass moves to alternate services.

Or... Do we not care about the old network ?

I am not specifically referring to Telstra here, I am referring to the
investment we've all made in the old network.

Disclaimer - My home is stuck on a RIM so I have no loyalty to old
infrastructure.

Cheers.

Splitting Telstra won't fix Telstra's desire to not introduce any new
technology that cannibalises their existing products.

Only a new entrant has no incentive to hinder new tech so as to get more
$$$s out of old tech.
