<p dir="auto">I need to provide an update to the AusNOG community regarding incidents<br>
that occurred in Sydney alongside the AusNOG meeting in April. The need to<br>
address this publicly is prompted in part by discussions which occurred on<br>
this mailing list, and which do deserve some followup.</p>
<p dir="auto">After allegations were made against an APNIC staff member, we engaged an<br>
independent specialist to investigate, and we have been grateful for the<br>
assistance and cooperation in that investigation of AusNOG community members<br>
who were directly impacted. The staff member has resigned from APNIC.</p>
<p dir="auto">It came as a shock and great disappointment to us that one of our staff<br>
members was involved in this incident. APNIC has long been committed to<br>
helping build an Internet community that is safe, encourages greater female<br>
participation, and is free from sexual harassment. But clearly, we need to<br>
do more.</p>
<p dir="auto">We're reviewing all our workplace training, systems, policies and compliance<br>
activities, and are having open conversations within APNIC to see where we<br>
can improve.</p>
<p dir="auto">APNIC has apologised to those who were directly impacted by the conduct<br>
which occurred, and has kept them informed on the outcome of the<br>
investigation and the actions taken. We sought and received their<br>
permission to send this message.</p>
<p dir="auto">With that in mind, and other legalities that we need to respect, there is<br>
not much more that I can say on the matter apart from this: sexual<br>
harassment is completely unacceptable in any form. We are determined to<br>
ensure it has no place at APNIC, and we support our colleagues in ensuring<br>
it has no place in the Internet industry.</p>
