Hi everyone,
Sorry to interrupt things a bit, but I’m seeking feedback from industry network operators that will help me on forming my understanding on how people consume (or would be open to consume) wave services. This is just to help me in some architecture thinking for upcoming SMAP (Due for completion Dec 2025) and also Indigo, OAC and others.
Fundamentally things are changing in the world and there are some new opportunities to change how we deliver optical services. An example of this would be the use of dark fibre in markets where it is available and commercially attractive. Just keen to grab peoples feedback on four basic questions.
Q: If the default 10/100/400 service is available at a specific DC in a market (eg Sydney) would you be prepared to accept a “metro interconnect” to deliver the service at another DC and at what distances?
No
Yes – only in campus less than 2km
Yes – up to 10km (LR)
Yes – up to 40km (ER/ZR)
Q: Would you prefer to order metro connect service to the default delivery location or would you prefer we/provider procure it to a demarc in yours?
Q: Would you be comfortable with a single path/non-redundant service depending on distance (assuming high availability as experienced in Australia and Singapore)?
Q: What would you be typically be connecting this service to? Router or Optical?
Happy to take responses off-list to reduce traffic, but provide a summary to people/list if they wish.
Thanks
Bevan
