Hi All,
Long time lurker, rare poster. I'm aware Ausnog isn't really the place
for individual requests but short of launching into a whole series of
pre-sales enquiries for solutions which would be well out of my
requirements/price I'm not sure of a better place. In either respect,
apologies in advance, desperation aside consider me admonished.
For quite some time I've been tolerating what can only be described as
an appalling ADSL connection near Sydenham (Sydney, NSW) station
approximately 2.5KM line length from the Undercliffe exchange. Despite
numerous attempts at rectifying the situation (some of which will become
more apparent soon) the best I've managed to squeeze out of this
connection is 4MBit and that's with a large variety of errors etc.
Historically (ie. for the past 3 years) I've tolerated this situation
however due to a recent career change I now find myself working full
time from home exacerbating the frustration and leading me to send this
last ditch attempt at rectification.
NBN HFC conversion recently rolled through my suburb however for
technically ridiculous and rather incompetent decisions made during the
development of the multi unit dwelling (5 units) I am located in the
attachment of the HFC network into the premises has no defined timeline
from NBN other than "coming soon" (they've said "in 6 months" 3 times in
the past 18 months now). Regarding rectification of the ADSL situation,
Telstra has attended site numerous times, switched pairs twice and
lately, because of the NBN deployment no longer appears to care at all.
This leaves me in a situation where I'm surrounded by "up to 100Mbit"
internet and can only get 4. Given the various NBN CVC issues maybe
that's a good thing, but now I've reached the point I'll pay a
relatively significant amount for essentially a residential solution to
the problem.
Consequently, I'm hunting for a wireless solution that has coverage near
Sydenham station. I have line of site to the Telstra tower located in
the rail yard on 1 Way Street, Tempe as well as most of the Sydney CBD
skyline. Previously when I faced these challenges I purchased and
deployed a iBurst/BigAir solution however previous resources (like
coverage maps and retail providers) have since disappeared following
Superloop's acquisition into Enterprise solutions. I'd happily consider
a point to point connection that terminates somewhere in a datacentre
and potentially then migrate some existing servers to a colo space. From
a budget perspective I would say it's Residential++. That is to say I'm
willing to pay outright for termination equipment, not looking for a
$50/month solution but also unlikely to pay $500/month (at that point I
might as well go Telstra Next G). Contract wise, I'd be willing to
signup for a reasonable period of time irrespective of NBN succeeding
into my premises (this ship is sailing) and right now utilisation is
roughly 200GB/month (mostly VPN traffic to the aforementioned servers).
If anyone thinks they might be able to help me out, please contact me
offlist.
Appreciate your time, enjoy your weekend, over & out.
Stuart
