[AusNOG] Exchange Fire - Parklea NSW

This is the notice as reported by Telstra on servicestatus.telstra.com:

"A fire at the Parklea Exchange in Sydney overnight has caused extensive damage and interrupted some home and business broadband and phone services in Parklea and Kellyville. There is also a disruption to a small number of mobile base stations in the area. The site has now been declared safe and our techs are onsite to assess the full damage and start work on the repair job. Due to the extent of the damage we expect permanent restoration to take a number of days, so while that work takes place we are deploying two Mobile Exchange on Wheels (MEOW) to the area to get customers back online as soon as possible. We expect the MEOWs to arrive onsite tomorrow morning, and we will provide updates on potential restoration times as soon as we have more information."

We first saw service loss around 1:50am for services that fed from that exchange.

Thanks,
Andrew

Adding more - apparently the fire started sometime around 3am, and has only in the last little while been extinguished.

The info I have access to seems to concur more with the reported AAPT stated position on the matter than the reported Telstra stated position...

Hahaha 'Sparkles' exchange, thanks iPhone auto correct.

Morning Everyone,

AAPT are advising the exchange 'Burnt Down' and Telstra are saying 'Small Fire'.

Not quite sure of the actual inspect yet apart from some services down in the Blaxktown area but if anyone has further information to add, please do.
