----

A small fire damaged equipment at the Parklea Exchange in Sydney overnight. The fire was contained quickly but it has interrupted some home and business broadband and phone services in Parklea and Kellyville. There is also a disruption a small number of mobile base stations in the area. Our technicians are waiting for the site to be declared safe so they can enter the Exchange to assess the damage and determine what restoration workneeds to be done.

----

I would assume that if it requires the site to be declared 'safe' and that still hasn't happened, means that it has to be quite a large fire.

A small fire would be half a rack of kit gone, not something that would cause a building to be considered unsafe :)

One of our partners just went and had a look, he doesn't believe it will be up anytime soon, his comment about the portable buildings being 50% melted kind of re-iterate that possibility I believe.

Certainly that it was a larger fire than "small fire" would indicate. It appears to have burned for around 7 hours...

The info I have access to seems to concur more with the reported AAPT stated position on the matter than the reported Telstra stated position...

Morning Everyone,

AAPT are advising the exchange 'Burnt Down' and Telstra are saying 'Small Fire'.

Not quite sure of the actual inspect yet apart from some services down in the Blaxktown area but if anyone has further information to add, please do.
